How to blur faces in a photo
Drop your photo onto the box above. Oval is already selected, so drag over a face and it's blurred inside the oval. Do the same for every face, press Undo last box if you place one wrongly, and press Download. Everything outside the ovals stays sharp.
This tool does not find faces automatically. You choose what to hide, which means nothing is guessed, and nothing about your photo is analysed by a service.
Why hide faces?
Photos of crowds, events, schools and public places often show people who didn't agree to appear online, including children. Blurring their faces before you post is considerate and, in some places and settings, a legal requirement. Many people also blur their own face in pictures they share anonymously.
Make it hard to undo
For faces, a strong blur or a large mosaic is usually enough. Make the oval slightly bigger than the face so the edges are covered, and raise the strength until features can't be recognised. If it matters a great deal, choose Black box. Also remove the photo's hidden location with the remove location from photo tool: the saved copy here is already written without it.
Questions people ask
How do I blur a face in a photo?
Drop the photo onto the tool above, drag an oval over each face, and press Download. The blur applies inside each oval.
Does it detect faces automatically?
No. You draw the ovals yourself, which keeps everything on your device and lets you decide exactly what is hidden.
Can I blur several faces?
Yes. Draw as many ovals as you need. Use Undo last box to remove the latest one.
Is my picture uploaded to a server?
No. The picture is edited inside your browser tab, on your own device, and nothing is sent anywhere. That matters when the thing you're hiding is private.
Does the saved picture still contain location and camera data?
No. The saved copy is written fresh from the picture's pixels, so the EXIF data of the original, including any GPS location, isn't carried over. Only a standard colour profile is added.
Is blurring or pixelating safe for hiding text?
Not completely. Strong blurring and large mosaics make faces and text unreadable to people, but weak settings can sometimes be partly recovered, especially for text. For passwords, account numbers and other sensitive details, use the Black box option, which replaces the pixels entirely.
What file formats can I save?
PNG, JPG or WebP, chosen under the picture. PNG is lossless, JPG is smallest.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no limit, no watermark and no account. PhotoRiya is open source under the MIT and Apache 2.0 licenses.
