How to convert CMYK to RGB

  1. Add your CMYK file

Drag a CMYK JPG or TIFF onto the box above, or tap Choose a picture. The tool checks that it really is CMYK and tells you if it isn't.

  2. Pick PNG, JPG or WebP

PNG is selected for you. Change it any time and the preview and file size update without reloading the file.

  3. Download the RGB image

Press Download. The file is saved as sRGB, ready for websites, social media, email and presentations.

Why convert CMYK to RGB?

CMYK is made for printing: cyan, magenta, yellow and black ink on paper. Screens, browsers and phones work in RGB, and most of them can't colour-manage CMYK correctly. A CMYK JPG dropped into a web page or a chat can come out too dark, washed out or with strange colours. Converting it to RGB once, with the right profile, gives you a file that looks the way the printer's proof did on every device.

The conversion uses the CMYK profile stored in your file when there is one, because that profile describes the press and paper the numbers were meant for. Without it the tool uses a generic coated-paper profile and says so. Black point compensation is applied so shadow detail isn't crushed.

What to expect

  • Most colours match closely. Anything inside the sRGB range converts accurately.
  • Rich blacks look black. A four-colour black becomes a deep neutral RGB black rather than a lifted gray.
  • A few cyans can't be shown. Some deep cyan and blue-green inks print colours that sRGB screens can't display, so they're mapped to the closest on-screen colour.
  • Transparency and layers aren't part of CMYK JPG and TIFF files here. For a layered CMYK PSD, use the PSD converter.

Going the other way? The RGB to CMYK converter separates a picture for print and shows how it will look on paper.

Questions people ask

How do I convert CMYK to RGB for free?

Drop your CMYK JPG or TIFF onto the converter above. It converts the colours to sRGB using the profile stored in the file, then gives you a PNG, JPG or WebP to download. There's nothing to install and no account to make.

Why does my CMYK image look wrong in a browser or app?

Many programs show a CMYK JPG with the wrong colours, often too dark or with inverted tones, because they don't colour-manage CMYK. Converting it to RGB bakes the correct colours into a file every screen understands.

Which colour profile is used?

The converter reads the CMYK profile embedded in your file and uses it. If the file has none, it falls back to a built-in generic coated-paper CMYK profile, and the note under the preview tells you which one was used.

Will the colours match the original exactly?

Very closely, but not always identically. CMYK and RGB cover different colour ranges, so some deep cyans and certain dark tones can't be shown exactly on a screen. Colours inside the sRGB range convert accurately.

Is my picture uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser tab, on your own device, and the result is handed straight back to you. Nothing is sent to a server.

Should I save the result as PNG, JPG or WebP?

Choose PNG when you want no quality loss, JPG for photographs where a small file matters, and WebP for a lossless image that is usually smaller than PNG. All three are saved as sRGB, which is what browsers and phones expect.

Can it open a CMYK PSD?

Use the PSD to PNG converter for that. It converts CMYK PSD and PSB files to RGB the same way. To go the other direction, there's an RGB to CMYK converter.
