How to convert Image files

  1. Add your file

Drag it onto the box above, or tap Choose a file and pick it from your device.

  2. Choose the result

The converted picture appears at once. Switch between PNG, JPG and WebP, and adjust the quality or exposure where they apply, without loading the file again.

  3. Download

Press Download. The file is saved with the original name and the new extension.

What it converts

The converter reads TIFF (including 16-bit and CMYK), WebP, PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP, TGA, QOI, ICO, PNM and the high-dynamic-range formats OpenEXR and Radiance HDR. It saves the result as PNG, JPG or WebP.

Everything happens in your browser with the same decoders and colour management as the PhotoRiya editor. If your file has an embedded colour profile, the colours are converted to sRGB so they look right everywhere.

Which output format should you pick?

PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, the right choice for graphics, screenshots and anything you'll edit again. JPG makes much smaller files for photographs but has no transparency, so see-through areas become white. WebP is lossless here, like PNG but usually smaller, and works in all current browsers.

Pictures with transparency keep it in PNG and WebP. For HDR files such as EXR and HDR, exposure and highlight controls appear so you can choose how bright values are mapped to a normal picture.

When you need more than a conversion

Need to edit the picture, add layers or text, or open a PSD? Open it in PhotoRiya. For specific formats there are dedicated pages: TIFF to JPG, WebP to PNG, EXR to PNG, HDR to JPG and TGA to PNG.

Questions people ask

Which image formats can I convert?

TIFF, WebP, PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP, TGA, QOI, ICO, PNM, OpenEXR and Radiance HDR files. The result can be PNG, JPG or WebP.

Does it keep transparency?

Yes, for PNG and WebP output. JPG has no transparency, so see-through areas become white in a JPG.

What happens to colour profiles?

If the file has an embedded RGB or CMYK profile, the colours are converted to sRGB with it, so the picture looks the same on any screen.

What happens to an animated GIF?

Only the first frame is converted, as a still picture.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser tab, on your own device, and the result is handed straight back to you. Nothing is sent anywhere, so it is safe for client work and private pictures.

What is the largest file I can convert?

Files up to 400 MB and about 120 megapixels. A browser tab has limited memory, so very large pictures work best on a computer rather than a phone.

Is this converter really free?

Yes. There is no limit, no watermark and no account. PhotoRiya is open source under the MIT and Apache 2.0 licenses.
